Veneto is one of Italy’s most well-liked tourist attractions because of Venice, its magnificent treasure and UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Built on an archipelago of 118 islands, boats and ferries are the only mean of transport, and this contributes to the uniqueness of the city.
The Doge Palace and St Mark’s Basilica are the main attractions, while the famous gondolas are most likely the main symbol of the city. Venice hosts also one of the most prominent opera houses in Italy – Teatro La Fenice. Finally, it’s impossible not to mention the world-know Venice Carnival and its traditional masks.
But the Veneto region offers much more, including art cities, mountains, wineries, and villas!
The legendary outdoor opera season in Verona’s Roman arena is a must-see for culture enthusiasts, and the area’s array of great art galleries and architecturally stunning buildings will leave them with plenty of options. Wine enthusiasts will discover a number of excellent regional wines, including sparkling Prosecco, which can be tasted in vineyards along the so-called “Ring of Prosecco“. On the other side, red-wines lovers will find their paradise visiting the Valpolicella area! A wine tasting of Amarone, the top red wine produced here, is a must.
Also lovers of outdoor activities will find a real heaven made of mountaineering, hiking, and cycling, all popular summer sports in the Dolomites, which also have resorts for winter skiing. Fans of water activities should head instead to the Adriatic or Lake Garda, while those looking for a more relaxing boating experience can cruise the Venetian lagoon, float up the Brenta Canal towards Padua, or circle Lake Garda.
