Cooking with Sicilian Mamas will introduce you to “Le mamme del Borgo”, a widespread traditional cuisine project which is a combination of Home restaurant and Street food. Born from the union of a group of mothers, it aims to make known the culinary traditions and enhance their country.
The project is based in Motta Camastra, a delightful village perched on the valley overlooking the spectacular Gorges of the Alcantara river. It is the first widespread cuisine restaurant in Sicily: the typical Sicilian flavors cooked at home and enjoyed directly in the streets of the village. A nice initiative appreciated by tourists that allows you to experience the country and share with the inhabitants the local gastronomic traditions.
From appetizers to dessert, the Sicilian dishes are real jewels of complexity that require a long preparation. Home is the temple where rites from the past are performed: both cooking and eating meals are rituals. Families eat all together at the table, frequently joined by neighbors, friends, and other members of the same family.
“Le mamme del Borgo” organize events on fixed dates, or by reservation. On these days, they make their homes available and cook traditional dishes with seasonal products from local agriculture. Guests can participate in the preparation of the dishes, they eat together as in a big party sharing the spaces, they can exchange recipes, ideas, make friends and at the same time visit the village.
